THE occurrence of thyrotoxicosis in patients with myasthenia gravis is not rare, over 90 such cases having been reported since the turn of the century.1 , 2 Various estimates place the incidence of hyperthyroidism in myasthenic patients at 3 to 6 per cent.3 , 4 However, myasthenia gravis occurs in only a fraction of 1 per cent of the thyrotoxic population.5 The two diseases often do not begin simultaneously; either one may precede the other by many months or years.
