Over the past several years, the molecular genetic basis of essentially all manifestations of highly penetrant, autosomal dominant hereditary predisposition to ovarian cancer has been completely elucidated. The purpose of this overview is to provide a succinct summary of this information, with particular emphasis on clinical implications. The presentation will take the form of specific questions that are most frequently asked by nonspecialists and patients, with the goal of providing the reader with up-to-date answers and a broad understanding of the fundamental principles of hereditary ovarian cancer.
