This article is about mapping the events that preceded, and immediately followed, the first description of Alzheimer's disease. The many terms and issues that played the" supporting cast" to Alzheimer's disease include: dementia, ageing, neuronal theory, methods of visualizing brain tissue, academic psychiatry and departmental rivalries, senile psychosis, and cerebral arteriosclerosis. Wrong symptoms of the disease have been reported earlier in several cases. For example, some might claim hallucinations and delusions, or not reminding about major arteriosclerotic changes.
