Two groups of 181 hypothetically psychosis-prone undergraduates were chosen for study on the basis of deviant high scores on the Physical Anhedonia Scale and a perceptual aberration scale. Scores on these 2 scales had a small negative correlation, indicating that they identified different sets of Ss. Psychotic and psychotic-like symptoms were scored on a specially devised scale of deviancy. Results indicate that perceptual-aberration Ss exceeded controls on auditory and visual experiences, thought transmission, passivity experiences, and aberrant beliefs. This group also showed more depression, hypomania, and deviances in communication than controls. Anhedonics did not differ from controls on psychotic-like experiences but were more socially withdrawn, had less heterosexual interest and activity, and scored higher on the composite score of schizotypal features. Findings support the hypothesis that the scales identify persons who are at risk for psychosis but probably for different psychoses.(47 ref)(PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
