During the ten years that have elapsed sitice the completioti of my work upon the'Fishes of India,'several new piscine forrns hare bcen obtained, both from tlie seas iind fresh waters of that part of Asia. Extended observations among specimens preserved in the JIuseutns of Europe hare likewise convinced me that sorne species which I forrnerly coilsidered to be uudescribed have no title to that desjgiixtion, while several of my new ones have been redescribed as novrlties by others. The foregoing reasons would scarcely have induced me to recur again to this iuterestiug fish-fauna had it not been that it is proposed to re-issue iiiy work in a more portable size, better suited to the rcquiremeirts of travellers and collectors. As the subject of the geographical distributiou of these fislies will have to be considered, 1 am obliged to point out not only sucli foril~ s as I haye erroneously described to be new, but likewise to advert to those of other describers which I believe would come nuder this liead.
