Significant enhancement of the photosensitivity of 7-hydroxyquinolines in aqueous buffer solution has been achieved simply by introducing two methyl groups at 2 and 4 positions. The product of the molar extinction coefficient and fluorescence quantum yield (e · Φ f ) for 7-hydroxy-2,4-dimethylquinoline is about 13-fold greater than that of original 7-hydroxyquinoline.
