The functional metal−organic frameworks (MOFs) showing surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) activity were fabricated by embedding 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid-capped AuNRs gold nanorods (AuNRs) into [Zn4O(bpdc)3]; bpdc = 4,4′-biphenyl dicarboxylate. The resulting purple cubic MOF crystals enabled us to investigate the existence and exchange of guest molecules in the nanopore of the MOF crystals by SERS spectra.
