DiscussionFluoroquinolones, synthetic derivatives of nalidixic acid, are widely used in the management of bacterial infections. They are known to be generally safe and well tolerated. The most common adverse reactions include gastrointestinal complaints, headache, dizziness, transaminitis, photosensitivity, tachycardia, QTc prolongation and rash. Anaphylactoid reactions also have been reported with fluoroquinolones, most notably with ciprofloxacin, with a incidence of 0.46–1.2/100,000 patients treated [1, 4].
