UPWELLING is a feature of oceanic circulation along the entire west coast of southern Africa from Cape Point (34.35 S) m the extreme south to Cape Frlo (18.4 S) near the border between Angola and NamIbla in the north. Under the influence of longshore winds, the phenomenon extends intermittently from Cape Point along the southern coast to Cape Agulhas, the most southern point of the African continent. The geography of the area is shown in Fig. l (a, b)
