Abstract.A new program, a-CLIMAX, has been developed to take ab initio data and produce a calculated INS spectrum. The program was demonstrated using benzene ab initio data. The symmetry character of the vibrations was used to assign the frequencies to observed peaks. a-CLIMAX is the first program of its kind to treat overtones (0-n; n>2) with fully anisotropic external Debye–Waller effects. These advances were shown to improve the fit to the data.
