A colorimetric method for the estimation of serum glycerides is presented. The glycerol released by saponification of the serum glycerides is oxidized to formaldehyde which reacts with acetylacetone to form a yellow dihydrolutidine derivative absorbing at 405 mμ. The results correlate well with those given by the ZilversmitVan Handel method. Values for normal subjects range between 40–155 mg triolein per 100 ml (1.36–5.25 mequiv/1), the difference between the mean values for males and females being statistically significant by Student'sttest.
