An ultracentrifuge apparatus to generate a strong acceleration field of up to or higher than 1 000 000 (1 x 10(6)) g at high temperature for long times has been developed for sedimentation of atoms in condensed matter. The system consists of a high-temperature air turbine motor with oil-floating bearing and a specimen rotor made of a titanium ahoy. It was confirmed that the ultracentrifuge experiment could be performed for a maximum rotating speed greater than 220 000 rpm with a rotor inner diameter of 40 mm. The specimen could be heated to over 300 degrees C far durations of several days. The maximum acceleration field achieved was higher than 1.1 x 10(6) g for temperatures > 200 degrees C. This apparatus can be used for strong acceleration field (mega-gravity field) science in solids and liquids at high temperature. (C) 1996 American Institute of Physics.
