The ‘linear model’ of research and practice is out of fashion. Once, knowledge generated by academic investigation under the protocols of social science was meant to have the durability of a pellet—to be fired at or into the windows of power (Steuer, 2003). Now we prefer more complicated models of how research and practice interlink. Knowledge is negotiable, fungible. Do academics know better or merely different?
