Materials and MethodsCollagen.—The soluble collagen was ichthyocol prepared by citrate extraction of carp swimbladder tunics. The preparation and characterization by a number of methods has been carried out by Boedtker and Doty. 2 The particu-lar sample used in this investigation was prepared by Mr. EHL Chun and was found to exhibit the same extinction angle versus gradient in flow birefringence as that found by Boedtker and Doty. 2 Since thisproperty is considered to be the most sensitive measure of length and length dis-tribution, the properties of this sample were taken to be the same as those reported. 2 The following sequence of operations was carried out.
