By international agreement, chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are being replaced with environmentally acceptable al-ternatives. Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are one class of CFC substitute. For example, HFC-134a is a replacement for CFC-12 in automotive air conditioning systems. Prior to large-scale industrial use, the environmental impact of the atmospheric release of HFCs requires consideration. CF3 radicals are produced during the oxidation of HFC-23 (1), HFC-125 (2-4), and HFC-134a (5, 6).
