Upon the discovery of the powerful larvicidal properties of l-(2, 6-dichlorobenzoyl)-3-(3, 4-dichlorophenyl)-urea (DU 19111), a large number of structural analogs were prepared. Their insecticidal properties were evaluated with larval stages of Aédes aegypti L., Pieris brassicae L., and Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say. Many of these compounds proved to be excellent insecticides, bringing about the same symptoms as DU 19111. These symptoms are indicative of a disturbance of the process of cuticle deposition, resulting in abortive moult. Within the series of l-(2, 6-dichlo-robenzoyl)-3-phenylureas, the 3-(4-chlorophenyl)-derivative (PH 60-38) appeared to be the most promising compound for several fieldsof applica-tion.
