Minamata disease is due to ingestion of seafood containing methylmercury derived from industrial pollution in Minamata Bay, Japan. Neurological manifestations in infants and children are described. Cerebral palsy and mental deficiency are discussed. Brain damage is described. The epidemiology of the disease is significant in the diagnosis. Hg levels in children may be correlated with the degree of environmental pollution.
