Merging the Internet of Things (IoT) with a Smart city environment is an excellent effort, and numerous research efforts are made in the last few years. The urban population growth and fast urbanization force the government or other organizations to make a city “smart” by utilizing the IoT. Pedestrian counting is one of the critical issues that must be monitored regularly to facilitate other smart city development facilities. In this paper, a novel approach to pedestrian counting has been designed and developed, including temperature and humidity information of those specific locations. The new approach is validated, which provides 90% accurate counting. The system is LoRa based, and low-power LoRaWAN network can be possible to develop for pedestrian counting with the proposed smart approach. Facilitating the new approach, the new design of the system was also done, and the 3D printer was used during the prototype development.
