Primary carcinoma of the trachea is rare in the general practice of medicine. but to those of us specializing in diseases of the head and neck, though being an uncommon tumor, tracheal cancer must be considered in the evaluation of our patients. The trachea, being approximately 11 ern in length, lies hidden from the mirror beneath the vocal cords, and much of it above the level of the average chest x-ray. Thus if early malignancy of this organ is to be discovered, it is necessary for the laryngologist to be acutely aware of this disease, its manifest symptomatology, and the prompt evaluation and the extent of the tumor.
