The mathematical model described in Bertram (1993) is used to carry out a detailed examination of the. manner in which the neurotransmitter serotonin modifies the voltage waveform generated endogenously by burster neuron R(15) Of Aplysia. This analysis makes use of a reduced system of equations, taking advantage of the slow rate of change of a pair of system variables relative to the others. Such analysis also yields information concerning the sensitivity of the neuron to brief synaptic perturbations.
