Kue The COVID-19 pandemic, along with the continued police brutality of Black/African Americans and racialized community violence against people of color, has brought to the national forefront the significant racial inequities in health and pervasive racism that exists in the United States. Research evidence on the breadth of racial inequities in infectious and chronic disease across the life span is robust as is research investigating the root cause of these inequities—racism and its deleterious effects on health and well-being (Bailey et al., 2017). The theme of this supplement to Nursing Research is racism and its effects on stress, coping, and health and well-being. The scientists presenting in this special issue are focused on understanding the experiences of racism, along with the mechanisms through which racism affects health and well-being, research that is critical for the development of effective interventions.
