Cacalia delphiniifoliaandCacalia hastataare edible wild plants in Japan. We found that these plants have anti-melanogenic activity in B16F10 mouse melanoma cells. Three furanoeremophilanes, cacalol (fromC. delphiniifolia), dehydrocacalohastin, and cacalohastin (fromC. hastata), were identified as the main active components. The genusCacaliamay be a good source of beneficial materials with anti-melanogenic effects.
