First: The small boy who is sensitive to the family cat is allergic. His case is typical, his history and his skin tests make the diagnosis obvious. His problem is easy, since the mechanism is understood, the treatment is clear, and the results are satisfactory. When the cat is removed, and the house is cleaned, the boy becomes quite well. One must add, however, that coniplications of the primary process are common. The boy may be sensitive to other dusts at the same time that he is sensitive to the cat, and then recurrent respiratory infections can keep the symptoms going and so create a secondary problem.
