Investigated the effects of oxytocin on obsessive compulsive (OC) symptoms using significantly higher doses of intranasal oxytocin. It was hypothesized that higher dosages might enable a sufficient amount of oxytocin to cross the blood brain barrier and have behavioral effects. Seven adults (mean age 46.3 yrs) with obsessive compulsive disorder received intranasal oxytocin for 1 wk and saline placebo for 1 wk. Five of the 7 Ss received oxytocin divided in 4 daily doses. Two Ss received twice this dosage by doubling the number of insufflations. Results reveal that maximal doses of intranasal oxytocin did not effect OC symptoms.(PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2018 APA, all rights reserved)
