The two-dimensional ferroelectric configuration is an array of arrows drawn on the bonds of a usual square lattice, one arrow for each bond. The ice constraint (I.C.) is that precisely two arrows point into and two point out of each vertex of the lattice. A lattice with N vertices has 2N bonds, so that without the ice constraint there are Z=22N configurations. It has been shown recently1) that asymptotically the number of configurations is given by .
