The growth of nonverbal communication research, an interdisciplinary enterprise, may be gauged by the volume of popular as well as scholarly publications generated during the past decade. Nonverbal Communication, Readings with Commentary, is a compendium of selected articles covering a broad spectrum of current research in the field. The articles included are categorized by the editor according to the following content areas: facial expression and visual interaction, body movement and gesture, paralanguage, proximity behavior, and multi-channel communication. The editor prefaces each section with a brief historical overview of that area along with an analysis of issues of current concern to researchers. Some of the newer developments within each area selected by the editor will be described briefly.
