The book adopts a village perspective to explore the way migrants and non-migrants are connected to one another within a ‘single field of sociality’(p. 11). To find out whether globalization solidifies places, Deirdre McKay examines the village and its migrants in connection to the meso and macro levels of social processes. McKay draws from her long-term fieldwork experiences in the village of Haliap in the Ifugao Province of the Philippines, in Hong Kong, and then in Canada. Departing from the usual multisited approach to migration studies, she followed the ‘same persons across an extended site’(p. 10): a migrant couple named Angelina and Luis as well as some of their friends. The results of her in-depth analysis are presented in seven chapters.The first chapter provides geographical information about Haliap.
