In a recent paper (Burns, '39 d ) the effects of the androgen testosterone propionate on the developing reproductive tracts in pouch young of the opossum were described. This account dealt primarily with changes of an anatomical order induced in older experimental groups, after treatment of 40 to 50 days duration. Detailed histological descriptions of the various parts were reserved f o r separate publication; only such histological data being given as were necessary to verify the anatomical findings and establish the extent and continuity of the various structures. It was found that testosterone propionate, in comparatively large doses, has both an androgenic and a gynogenic action upon appropriate parts of the reproductive apparatus in embryos of both sexes. That is (with one important exception) complete duct systems of both sexes, and their derivatives, are typically present and precociously developed in individuals of either genetic sex ; while the phallus is greatly hypertrophied and characteristically male in form. These effects are qualified in a quantitative
