Results:(1) The polygram disclosed frontal dominant bilateral frontocentral spike and wave complexes in all and the decreased mentalis tonus in non REM stage in 7 of the 8 cases.(2) The JLA revealed MC related potentials in 3 cases. The two with SPME showed positive spikes in the contralateral central area with latency under 20 msec and associated with the giant SEP and the cortical reflex. The remaining case, with massive myoclonus (MM) showed positive sharp wave, preceding the MC by 40 msec in the bilateral frontocentral dominant area. Conclusions:(1) Regardless of enhanced cortical hyperexcitability in EEG in all, MC related potentials were recorded in only 3 out of 8 cases.(2) MC derived directory from the motor cortex in SPME. In MM, the subcortical origin which has the time-locked relation with the cerebral cortex was suggested.(3) Atonia of the mentalis muscle in non REM stage indicated dysfunction of the brainstem monoaminergic neuron in all.
