Reflex contraction of the detrusor muscle in decerebrated cats evokes depression of tonic activity in the external urethral and anal sphincter of the cat. This depression of activity may occur via synaptic inhibition of both alpha and gamma motor neuron pathways to these sphincters. The site of these effects is in the sacral spinal cord.
