The reactive dianionnido-B10H122-has been shown to insert tin and germanium moieties to generate a new class of heteroundecaboranes of the form 7-X-7-EB10H12-(E = Ge, Sn; X = Br, I). Further reaction of the anion 7-Br-7-SnB10H12-with MeLi produces 7,7‘-(SnB10H12)22-.
