Etretinate has been in use in Cardiff since May 1978, and the aim of this study was to re-assess the use of etretinate based upon this experience and to determine whether our findings were similar to those in other centres in the UK. We were particularly interested to record the degree of acceptance of the drug by the patients, the toxic and side-effects experienced, and the comparison by dermatologists and patients of etretinate to other treatments. For this purpose we have reviewed our own patients and surveyed the experience of others.
