Sublobular distribution of cytochromes in cold-stored rat liver.

Many organs awaiting transplant are stored at hypothermic temperatures either by flushing and cold storing on ice or by perfusing at low temperature. We report here on successful studies that optically monitor cytochrome and NADH oxidation/reduction changes in both cold-stored and cold-perfused rat liver. High-resolution reflectance-difference and fluorescence images provide information on the distribution of cytochromes and NADH, respectively, between pericentral and periportal regions. A comparison is made of the responses of mitochondrial cytochromesaandcin coupled and uncoupled (dinitrophenol) cold-stored liver to transitions in oxygen delivery.
