A function f with domain A and range B is a set {(x,y):x∈A,y∈B} of ordered pairs (x,y) in A x B which satisfies the following condition [see Section 96 in Appendix 2]: if (x,y) and (x,ý are in f then ý = y. We say f maps A into B and write f:A → B. If (x,y) is in f, we say y is the value of f at x and write y = f(x). Thenf is the set {(x,f(x)):x∈A}, and B={f(x):x∈A}.
