The authors’ discussion of the abstract forms that subsume capitalist societies and perpetuate subordination is an inter-esting lens for the analysis of the political economy of work in any research where con-text cannot or should not be overlooked. Despite the inaccurate presentation of a tax-funded basic income and eventually conflating formal and concrete abstraction, they strike a very fine balance between rigour and fluidity throughout the book, which makes it inviting for graduate students too. The implications of Dinerstein and Pitts’ arguments are that it is not productivity that displaces labour, and it is not liberation from work that will liberate us from capitalism.
