IMPLICATIONS FOR SURGEONS AND PATIENTS ChatGPT demonstrates promise in providing guidance regarding rhinoplasties and eyelid surgeries. However, plastic surgeons should exercise caution when consulting generative AI in their practice. Despite the most recent version's ability to access the Internet—including the AAO-HNS and ASPS guidelines—ChatGPT is not entirely matched to published clinical practice guidelines. 4 In addition, ChatGPT was unable to find answers to certain questions, which may be related to the LLM's need for specific prompting. Considering online health resources are often used by patients to inform their decision making, LLMs present a significant risk for patients seeking information regarding their craniofacial surgeries. 5 As ChatGPT's responses depend on the quality and medical detail of the questions being posed, plastic surgeons should advise patients who report using the LLM on the importance of consulting trained medical professionals. Ultimately, further research must be conducted to evaluate the concordance of generative AI with practice guidelines for craniofacial procedures and before its more widespread adoption in surgical practice.
