Phenyldithiane 3 is methylated with 13CH3I to give, through the thioacetal 4, labelled acetophenone (5). NaOBr-cleavage to the title compounds 1 and 2 (65 % and 76 %, respectively) and their use in the preparation of the dibromocyclopropane 6 and the dibromoolefin 7 are described.
