A high-speed optical suppressed-carrier single side-band modulator/optical frequency shifter operated with a single RF modulation signal was experimentally demonstrated around 15GHz. One optical side-band generated by electro-optic phase modulation was enhanced but the other optical side-band and carrier were suppressed at the same time by using the three-branch waveguide interferometer. Arbitrary control of the phase of optical modulation was also obtainable by using the polarization-reversed structure in a ferroelectric material substrate. These techniques lead to a compact optical suppressed-carrier single side-band modulator/optical frequency shifter operated with a single RF modulation signal at quasi-millimeter-wave/millimeter-wave frequency ranges
