A XEURILEMMOMA is an encapsulated and solitary tumour of the Schwann's sheath of nerve, arising in cranial, sympathetic or peripheral nerves. Neurilemmoma of the tongue is, especially, very rare. I have not seen any clinical and physiopathological information about neurilemmoma of the tongue in the classical text books (Szanto, 1952) of the world and the Turkish medical literature in the last 15 years. From 1950 up to date, only 32 cases were reported in the medical literature of the world (Adamowicz, 1961; Bani, 1956; Berlendis, 1962; Cachin et al., 1967; Cameron, 1959; Chadwick, 1964; Chhatbar, 1965; Craig, 1964; Ferranti and Cavagni, 1965; Firfer et al., 1966; Harpman and Prior, 1955; Ichihara and Koda, 1961; Mercantini and Mopper, 1959; Michallet et al., i960; Samsoenarjo, 1959; Swanson and White, i960; Pantazopoulos, 1965; Uj, 1965; Uj, 1967; Taddei, 1953; Tyszkiewicz et al., 1966). All cases were pure neurilemmoma of the tongue and were differentiated from neurofibromatosis (Bird and Clark, 1955; Fliciriski, 1964; Mahnke, 1958; Morselli, 1962; Rasi, et al., 1965; Roy and Ray, 1965; Simpson, 1965). For this reason the publication of a case of neurilemmoma of the tongue may prove of interest.
