THE FAMILY ENCYRTIDAE ranks among the largest of the Chalcidoidea with about 500 described genera and 3,000 species. Encyrtids are among the most commonly collected and employed parasitoids of economically important mealybugs. Oriental Mealybug Parasitoids addresses some of the problems in taxonomy and in the utility of encyrtids as biological control organisms by summarizing the taxonomic status, host records, and biology of one tribe, Anagyrini (subfamily Tetracneminae), in the Orient. The book is not developed in chapters; it is arranged into topical sections. These sections include a brief Introduction followed by: historical reviews of encyrtids, materials and methods, abbreviations of specimen depositories, terms and measurements," Phylogeny and Classification of the Encyrtidae," and" Phylogeny of Anagyrini." These sections comprise less than 40 pages of text. The bulk of the book is devoted to a" revision of species" of Anagyrini. The revision is followed by a summary of encyrtids used in biological control and a host-parasitoid index of encyrtids attacking mealybugs. The text is relatively free of errors. The format seems expansive, each genus beginning on a new page; each heading and associated space comprise more than a third of a page. Considerable space could have been saved with a different format.
