The aim of this article is to suggest practical ways in which some structure can be given to the vague notion of" being available". By structure is meant the defining of limits regarding area of competence forwhattype of problem is one available? time and place-when and where is one available? and type of relationship-what sort of help is one offering?The suggested structure is intended to apply primarily to the availability of the minister or religious counsellor. since it is here more than in any other helping profession, that a marked lack of definition exists at present. The simplest way of presenting such a structure is in the form of a set of instructions and practical suggestions, but this is not at all intended to be a dogmatic statement of what must be done. lt should serve merely as a basis for discussion of the issues involved, issues not sufficiently discussed at present.
