The article focuses on the immense bacterial population in the oral cavity and the pathogenic potential of all of the bacteria that colonize the oral cavity. Over 700 species have been identified in the oral cavity, however, the majority of species are selective for a particular oral site such as the periodontal pocket, dorsum of the tongue, or hard palate. The article presented the historical facts of the oral microbiota and its studies.
