MATERIALS AND METHODSGeneral methods and materials. Phosphorus (31P, 109.35 MHz) NMR spectra were obtained on a Bruker WP-270SY spectrometer. Melting points were measured using a Thomas-Hoover capillary melting point apparatus and are uncorrected. Elemental analyses were performed by Galbraith Laboratories.[3H] TTP was purchased from Moravek Biochemicals, Brea, CA. dATP, dCTP, dGTP, TTP, single stranded-and native-DNA cellulose, and calf thymus DNA were obtained from Sigma Biochemicals, St. Louis, MO. DEAE-cellulose and phosphocellulose were products of Whatman Inc., Clifton, NJ. All other chemicals were reagent grade.
