Au sein de la population totale,un petit numbre d'epipelagiques et de migratrices inter-zone predominant, avec a petite part of l'abondance comprising a majority of especes non-dominant. Au sein de la population totale,un petit numbre d'epipelagiques et de migratrices inter-zone predominant, avec a petite part of l'abondance comprising a majority of especes non-dominant.
[Species diversity and niche-partitioning in scolecitrichid copepods were analysed in Sagami Bay on the basis of a day-night series of stratified sampling in the upper 1000 m. A total of 43 species belonging to 11 genera were identified, of which 35 species were allocated to 6 groups according to their depth distribution and diel-migration pattern. Contrasting vertical patterns between abundance and species diversity, a common phenomenon in pelagic copepods, were observed in the family as a whole, and in 2 of the genera. There was a general trend of miniaturization of body dimensions in the epipelagic- and interzonal migrants, relative to the mesopelagic species. The epipelagic- and interzonal migrants tended to show finer vertical segregation, in contrast to differentiation in body size in the mesopelagic species. In total abundance, a small number of epipelagic- and interzonal migrants predominated, with a minor portion of the abundance comprising a much larger number of non-dominant species. Differentiations in vertical patterns and/or body sizes were apparent in particular genera and in morphologically similar species pairs. These observations suggest that the highly diverse scolecitrichid assemblage in Sagami Bay may be structured, for the major part, through the partitioning of vertical habitats and of food resources. , Species diversity and niche-partitioning in scolecitrichid copepods were analysed in Sagami Bay on the basis of a day-night series of stratified sampling in the upper 1000 m.
