A highly luminescent supramolecular Cu2I2(NH3)2-sandwiched Cu3(pyrazolate)3 adduct was reported as a temperature sensor. The adduct is stabilized by the synergy of intermolecular Cu3⋯I (π acid⋯base), Cu⋯Cu and N⋯H interactions, to form a Cu8I2 cluster. The emission intensity exhibits a temperature-dependent effect in the solid state with a sensitivity of −0.685% K−1. DFT and TDDFT calculations revealed that the luminescence originates from the triplet state of Cu8I2 cluster-centered charge transfer (3CC).
