During field research in northern Ethiopia in September 2015, an earlyfourteenth-century leaf containing the beginning of Mand. IV was identified at Dabra Aśā Abbā Yoḥanni, a finding that contributed to the organization of an official expedition to the monastery in May 2017.2 In the context of inventory and conservation work undertaken at that time, seventeen further leaves (or portions thereof) of the manuscript emerged from among the more than one thousand fragments in the monastery’s library. 3 The preserved text of the
