The external features of the civet cat (Viverra zibetha)brain were compared with the cat, dog and giant panda brains. In the rhinencephalon, the olfactory tract apparently reaches mostly the pyriform lobe in the cat and the civet cat, and both the pyriform lobe and the olfactory tubercle in the dog; while in the giant panda, it reaches the pyriform lobe, the olfactory tubercle and the septal area. These are only external features. The motor analyzer in the frontal lobe is less developed in the civet cat than in the cat and the dog; it is best developed in the giant panda. The visual analyzer in the occipital lobe is better developed in the civet cat, cat and the dog brains, and least developed in the giant panda. The auditory analyzer in the temporal lobe seems to be better developed in the dog than in the cat, the civet cat and the giant panda.
