Based on the HadISST1 data,long-term trend of sea surface temperature(SST) in the East China Sea(ECS) during 1945~2006 is studied. The SST tends to get warmer with a rate of 0.015 ℃/a,and raises 0.9 ℃ totally. The East Sea has the most obvious changes, especially along the coast of Fujian and Zhejiang Provinces extending to the northeast part.During the 62 years, both the northward current flow in the Taiwan Strait and the northward intrusion of the Kuroshio which locates on the northeast coast of Taiwan Island have been strenthened, inducing more heat transported by horizontal advection to enhancing the warming trend of the ECS.Vertical entrainment caused by sea surface wind can also play a positive role while net heat flux at sea surface restrains the warming of SST.Our results show that this long-term change of SST in the ECS is most likely to be influenced by the long-term variability in the Pacific Ocean.
