RT of 16 male and 16 female undergraduates to monaurally presented tonal commands signifying" right" and" left" was significantly slowed when the meaning of the command conflicted with the ear in which the command was heard. Similar response interference was observed on binaural trials in which the apparent source of the command was manipulated by shifting the interaural phase. Results are explained in terms of a potent natural tendency in humans to react toward the source of stimulation.(PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
