Thomas P. Hettinger and Lyman C. Craig abstract: Edeine A has been shown to be a mixture of the antibiotic peptide edeine Ai and its inactive isomer, edeine A·,. Edeine B is likewise a similar mixture of active edeine Bi and inactive edeine B2. The amino acid sequence of edeine Ai, determined by examination of 30 fragments obtained by partial acid hydrolysis, is W-(/3-tyrosyl) isoseryl-(a:^-ci:)-2, 3-diaminopro-pionyl-(a-** o:)-2, 6-diamino-7-hydroxyazelayl-(—-a)-glycyl-NH (CH2) 3NH (CH2) 4NH2. In edeine Bi, the sequence of the fragments is identical, except that the terminal amino group of the spermidine residue is replaced by a guanidino group. Edeines A, and Bi undergo reversible intramolecular isomer-
